Adult Ministries:

Classes: Schedule and Information

Adult Ministries plans for adult education, with the goal of nurturing the “whole Christian” in spirituality, mission, and fellowship.

The Adult Issues Class is a lecture oriented class that meets at 9:30 on Sunday mornings. Class topics and schedule are planned by a committee and include such 2-3 week topics/themes as:
 • Reformed Theology
 • Social Justices Issues: local and world-wide
 • Bible study of (usually) one book
 • Economic Issues
 • Religion and Politics

Speakers are drawn from our church, the community, and professors at local seminaries or universities.

Small discussion groups are reemerging as another Sunday morning option, with such recent topics as:
  • Prayer
  • Presbyterianism
  • Book discussion on Simply Christian,
     by Bishop N.T. Wright

Monday evening classes are also becoming a popular offering. In the winter/spring of 2009, our interim pastor, Dr. Eric Springsted, is leading a class on the Old Testament.

Occasionally there is a special series after church on Sundays, the most recent one being “Aging for All of Us”.

During the summer we also have a summer reading group, with book discussions held at various members’ homes.

The Washington DC area has many other opportunities for adult religious education. Many of these are open to the public.

Campus Ministry at
Georgetown University:

GPC conducts a campus ministry at Georgetown University for Presbyterian students coming to Washington from all over the country, and for all who are interested. It is a member of the Georgetown University Protestant Ministry Council. Led by a staff member of the church and/or a lay leader in the church, the group meets on the Georgetown University campus as is mutually convenient and desired by the student members. Activities have typically involved Bible study, worship, and discussions of social and ethical issues. The group has also undertaken a weekend retreat off campus once or twice a year. On Sundays interested students walk to GPC and are regular attendees at its worship services. Many have become involved in the ongoing activities of the congregation, such as leadership in the youth groups. They have also hosted on the Georgetown University Campus for GPC members a Wednesday night Lenten service. If you have any questions you may call the church office at 202-338-1644, or e-mail the GPC Campus Ministry Coordinator.
