One Congregation One Family
One Congregation One Family is a partnership between faith communities in DC and the local government. Many families struggle with the transition from housing insecurity to permanent housing. While the city provides many of the financial resources, a whole community must be involved to help walk alongside and mentor a family through transition. That’s where we come in. Members of GPC are walking alongside families making this challenging and life-changing transition.
Central Union Mission Backpack Drive
GPC also packs over 100 backpacks each year to give to students going back to school through the DC Central Union Mission. School supplies are a major family expensive, and receiving backpacks will help children to succeed in school with the basic resources we need. We pack the backpacks one Sunday after worship during the summer and deliver the backpacks later in the week.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity provides affordable housing across the country and around the world. Here in DC, safe, affordable housing is particularly safe. Families in need of housing and volunteers partner together to build a house, and Habitat for Humanity facilitates low-interest, affordable mortgages for families. Volunteer build hours and donations make this possible.
